Art Education as an Escape

mitchell.jpg

An interesting article in the Free Press tells about the increase of people taking art classes as a way to deal with financial stress. Art Therapy has been used a lot in healthcare, but it I've heard of it used for financial reasons.

Excerpt:
Despite the pullback in consumer spending, two major art centers in metro Detroit -- the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center and the Anton Art Center -- are seeing an increase in people flocking to their classes and workshops. And reservations have been pouring in for Artcenter Traverse City's weekly summer workshops, which start at $350 each.

LightLane

lightlane.htm

It may be freezing cold outside now, but its never too early to start thinking of spring. A great new product for bikes is the LightLane, a safety concept by Altitude, Inc. The system projects a virtual bike lane, using lasers, on the ground around the rider. This provides drivers with a recognizable boundary they can easily avoid. The idea is to allow riders to take safety into their own hands, rather than leaving it to the city.

CCS students design new Model T concept

bilde.jpg

Eleven CCS students were sponsored by Ford to create new concepts for the Model T, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The first place prize went to Dong Tran (above) who plans for powering the vehicle with a battery pack that could be removed and used to power other devices. The battery he designed would be powered by solar panels on the hood of the car. It would also have an active suspension system, which could capture energy for re-use as the car moves up and down over the road.

All of the Model T entrants will be on display this summer at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Tran's Model T also will be displayed at Ford's world headquarters in Dearborn.
