The results look pretty impressive!

Meninos design shop

Very fun designs from Meninos in Brazil. Among my favorites are the ps/ai magnetic board, and the skateboard calendar. Also notable, the photoshop toolbar skateboard deck.

Yudu Personal Screen Printer

yudu.jpg

The Yudu Personal Screen Printer is an all-in-one home screen printing system.

The unit exposes screens, has a drying fan and functions as a printing station. A line of supplies including sheets of emulsion, ink and screens are also available and sold alongside the Yudu unit in Jo-Ann Fabrics.

While the product itself is impressive, what interests me more is the availability of supplies like emulsion sheets in a store like Jo-Ann Fabrics. In the past, it was either liquid emulsion (which is dangerous and a pain to work with), or large expensive rolls of sheet emulsion from an art store.

I might even pick up a few sheets and try to expose them on my own screens. I imagine with a little experimenting, a flood lamp or sunlight could be used for exposure.

Art Education as an Escape

mitchell.jpg

An interesting article in the Free Press tells about the increase of people taking art classes as a way to deal with financial stress. Art Therapy has been used a lot in healthcare, but it I've heard of it used for financial reasons.

Excerpt:
Despite the pullback in consumer spending, two major art centers in metro Detroit -- the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center and the Anton Art Center -- are seeing an increase in people flocking to their classes and workshops. And reservations have been pouring in for Artcenter Traverse City's weekly summer workshops, which start at $350 each.
