If you aren't too much of an Indesign fan, then come anyways. There is a raffle at the end for gift cards, books and even a CS4 package! All Free! That's the best word around designers nowadays. Don't bother about dinner either, they got that covered too.

It's February 5th at Schoolcraft College

Quick tip: Pressure sensitive drawing in Illustrator

pressure.gif

Illustrator is a powerful tool. While the pen tool is the obvious weapon for most, a Wacom tablet and brush tool can yield some interesting results.

The big advantage of a tablet and illustrator is that you can achieve beautiful organic lines with the scaling freedom of vector construction.

Step 1:
If you haven't already, the first thing you will need to do is download the appropriate drivers for your tablet and operating system. The drivers are available from the Wacom website if you do not have the original CD.

Step 2:
After installing your driver, launch Illustrator.

Double click the brush icon in your toolbar. Deselect the "Fill new brush strokes" and "keep selected" boxes.

Step 3:
Open your brush palette and double click on a calligraphic brush in the top row. This will open a box that allows you to control options such as brush angle, roundness and diameter with pressure.
Simply use the appropriate drop down menus to select pressure. The Variation slider lets you adjust the range in which your pressure can affect the brush.

That's it!

LightLane

lightlane.htm

It may be freezing cold outside now, but its never too early to start thinking of spring. A great new product for bikes is the LightLane, a safety concept by Altitude, Inc. The system projects a virtual bike lane, using lasers, on the ground around the rider. This provides drivers with a recognizable boundary they can easily avoid. The idea is to allow riders to take safety into their own hands, rather than leaving it to the city.
